Songs that Move the World

Welcome to the Comenius Blog.

Jan Comenius ( 1592-1671) was a Polish scholar and teacher who gives his name to the EU schools' project which aims to develop among young people and their teachers a knowledge and understanding of the diversity of European languages and cultures and to encourage them to value this diversity.

With the help of Comenius funding, MHSG was able to take part in a three way choral project, Songs that Move the World, with St Ursula Gymnasium, Austria and Lindeskolan, Sweden.

Our Comenius blog tells the story of the first leg of our choral partnership: our trip to Salzburg and Spital am Pyhrn.

What to take

Considerations
  • The weather in Salzburg can be wet and cool, but it may be warm and sunny
  • Spital is in the mountains and so may well be cooler than Salzburg
  • Most of the rehearsal time is indoors
  • We may do a little light walking to points of interest
  • You may want to do some early morning jogging
  • You will need to look smart for the concert and the meal afterwards
  • Luggage allowance 20kg for suitcase + I piece of hand luggage
  • You will need to be able to carry/trundle your own case

Clothes
  • Go for layers
  • Avoid jeggings/leggings and shorts – the photos in the booklet show that the dress code is more conservative than that in Manchester
  • Avoid anything too revealing/off the shoulder
